I have a video to share with you that I recorded on December 3rd, 2023 at Sinai Residences. When I made the decision to leave behind the luxurious and extravagant musical lifestyle, I wasn't sure what to expect. The poor condition of the piano, the surrounding circumstances, etc. Most of the audience members are elderly, and some of them have dementia. While I was playing Chopin's Prelude (Raindrop), I heard someone snoring. lol Even though the noise got louder, I kept my head in the game and told myself, "You can do this, Soo Jung. Don't let it distract you!” Oops, I messed up at 5:11 in the video and hit the wrong key by mistake. lol I just wish I could play without getting sidetracked by all the noise and activity around me. It would be so nice to just be able to focus and really get into the zone. I performed a solo piano concert at John Knox Village on January 24, 2023; this video is a recording of a part of that performance. A week before the concert, I received a call informing me that I had been granted the chance to perform a solo piano concert. It's worth mentioning that I had just completed a piano duo concert on January 13 when the call came in. So, I said, "Oh! Sorry! It is impossible". Then, I noticed two people staring at me, and their eyes conveyed a message. They were urging me to take action with phrases like "You must do it, Soo Jung" and "Avante, Sempre Avante." I couldn't resist and ended up playing the unforgettable Steinway piano. You know the overall concept of the Steinway piano. It's known for its smooth key touch and beautiful action response. I was surprised to find that the piano I played had heavy and sticky keys, the opposite of what I had anticipated. Despite feeling a bit nervous and sweaty, I pushed through and played Debussy on the heavy piano until the very end. I am currently watching this video and find it to be quite decent. Don't you agree? Whenever we face difficulties and challenges, we should persist and persevere. It's important to never give up! Avante! Sempre Avante! Thank you for the lesson. C.
